An epidemiologist studies the causes and patterns of diseases in a population or area and tries to prevent epidemics/pandemics from reoccurring.
They are more scientists than doctors who specialize in the highly viral epidemic illness (such as new diseases) and provide or develop cures and also modes of prevention of diseases with vaccinations.
