A Thyroid Panel test is a comprehensive assessment of thyroid function. It combines a number of blood tests to assess the levels of thyroid hormones & markers to learn if your thyroid gland is working normally. These panel tests disclose if your thyroid is producing the right amount of thyroid hormones or not.
Your doctor may order a Thyroid Panel test to:
- Check for thyroid disease before it causes symptoms, especially in newborns
- Diagnose an underactive or overactive thyroid
- Determine if an underlying disorder, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Graves’ disease, thyrotoxicosis, or thyroid inflammation, may be causing an underactive or overactive thyroid
- Assess a lump on the thyroid gland, called a thyroid nodule
- Assess an enlargement of the thyroid gland, called a goiter
- Watct the treatment for thyroid disorders
- Recognize how your thyroid is functioning enables your doctor to treat a thyroid disorder if one is present.

Your doctor may recommend a Thyroid Panel test under the following conditions:
- Thyroid Dysfunction Symptoms: When a patient presents with symptoms suggestive of thyroid dysfunction, such as fatigue, weight changes, temperature sensitivity, hair loss, or mood swings, a Thyroid Panel test helps evaluate the function of the thyroid gland.
- Monitoring Thyroid Disease: Individuals with known thyroid disorders, such as hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, require regular monitoring of their thyroid hormone levels to assess treatment effectiveness and adjust medication dosages if necessary.
- Screening for Thyroid Disorders: In some cases, a Thyroid Panel test may be ordered as a routine screening tool, especially in individuals with risk factors for thyroid dysfunction, such as a family history of thyroid disease or certain autoimmune conditions.
